What is ADHD?

ADHD is a mental health disorder that’s typically diagnosed during childhood. It can cause problems with attention span, focus, and behavior, often causing quite disruptive and frustrating symptoms.

While often thought of as a childhood disorder that improves with age, new studies show that up to 80% of people with ADHD continue to have problems related to the disorder during their adolescent and adult years.

Heritage Wellness focuses on meeting the unique needs of adolescents and adults who struggle with ADHD. They offer evaluation, diagnosis, and personalized psychiatric care to help you overcome the intrusive and upsetting challenges of ADHD.

What are the symptoms of ADHD?

There are three main categories of ADHD. If you have ADHD, you may experience:

Predominantly inattentive presentation
With predominantly inattentive presentation ADHD, it’s often difficult to follow instructions, complete tasks, stay on track, and observe details. You may get easily distracted at work or school, make careless mistakes, forget routine chores, or have difficulty maintaining a daily routine.

Predominantly hyperactive-impulsive presentation
Predominantly hyperactive-impulsive presentation ADHD causes symptoms like frequent fidgeting, restlessness, and difficulty remaining quiet. People with this type of ADHD may talk constantly, interrupt others, or act without thinking first.

Combined presentation
Combined presentation ADHD includes behaviors from both inattentive and hyperactive-impulsive categories.
ADHD can vary significantly not only within its three main categories but also from one person to another.
This disorder is often very different in adolescents and adults versus children in elementary school.
Heritage Wellness provides individualized compassionate care for adolescents and adults with ADHD.
